What is a Deacon?

The New Testament provides us with three specific references to the humble office of deacons that are mentioned in

  • Philippians 1:1
  • 1 Timothy 3:8-13
  • Romans 16:1

Ultimately, the purpose of a deacon is centered around the physical well-being of the church community. By tending to the practical needs of the congregation, deacons ultimately nurture the spiritual health of the church as a whole. They play an integral role in cultivating unity within the church, acting as a bridge between different factions of the congregation by promoting collaboration and cooperation among members. It is important to recognize that deacons are not mere caretakers; they are crucial players in the spiritual tapestry of the church. Therefore, we should strive to fully appreciate their contributions and continue supporting them as they fulfill their missions to serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
